Dental veneers are a popular cosmetic treatment and one of the most versatile solutions available for enhancing a natural smile. Veneers are used to solve a number of dental issues that can make us unhappy with the way our teeth look, such as bad staining and discolouration, or chips, cracks, gaps and over-crowding in the teeth. Although the teeth themselves may well be healthy, the way they look can make us self-conscious, especially if the issue is with the front teeth, and dental veneers can provide a dramatic improvement to a smile.
If you are interested in improving the appearance of your teeth, ask your Manor Square dentist about cosmetic veneers or book a new patient consultation by calling 01943 461501. We can advise you on the most effective techniques and treatments for you.

What is a veneer?
A veneer is a thin layer of tooth-coloured material, usually porcelain, which is placed onto the front surface of the tooth to alter its appearance. Technology has advanced significantly in recent years so that only a minimal amount of the original tooth is removed to make room for a veneer. Once fixed in place veneers usually last for many years. Their strength and appearance rivals that of natural teeth.
The process of having a porcelain veneer is similar to that for crowns. After minimal preparation (the dentist will remove a tiny amount of the tooth’s surface so that when the veneer is applied it doesn’t feel bulky or uncomfortable), impressions are taken with a soft material so that models of the teeth can be made. The dental technician then builds up the veneer ready for the dentist to fix it in place. The dentist will stick the newly-made veneer onto the tooth with a special dental adhesive glue to ensure it stays in place. Once bonded to the tooth, a veneer becomes strong, natural-looking and long-lasting.
